Fisherbabes Writings

This is something that I have discussed before, but thought it would be a good idea to bring it here too.

My ideas come from a variety of sources.  The idea for the Chrystias series actually came from my best friend at school, Claudia, who gave me the starting of a scene which was a dream of hers, that I could use to do a 6th form English project.  I worked on it all year and came up with this story which actually got good marks from my English teachers, they seemed impressed with it.

But I also get ideas from dreams, I have a journal I keep of dreams that come to me, I have several that I would like to turn into stories, but at the moment, they are just mulling around.  There is one where I dreamt that a woman was betrothed to a man she did not know and she was forced to marry him.  She ran away, but he followed her and having compassion on her he tried to work out the relationship away from the society that they lived in, she eventually fell in love with him, but it is all a penny dreadful tale really, just set in a fantasy setting.

Movies and book also give me ideas or at least concepts that I can expand on.  I love to read, although since having my son I have not done a lot of reading lately, but I have been trying to get back into it.  Watching Basic Instinct provided me with a basis for an unsolved murder mystery based in a futuristic Nelson, unfortunately it happened about the same time as an unsolved murder happened in Nelson for real, so I have a strange feeling that if I solve my murder, the Nelson murder will be solved also.

I got an idea the other day from some research I was doing for a fancy dress party, I went as a Gothic Vampyre and decided to research it so I didn’t look like a complete prat, instead I found a whole society that has developed, and now I want to write a story involving NZ and a vampire.  This will involve a lot of research, but I am willing to do it if I can come up with something that can be used at schools to provide a unique perspective on historical events in NZ.

Ideas come from strange places, my own experiences, another story idea I have is about a husband and wife who struggle with their own marriage after the husband discovers his wife having an internet affair.  This is going to be based on true events and may help me to determine why it happened in the first place, or at least let Kerry know from my point of view.  If it can help another couple out there, I will be pleased with that!

Every day events around me inspire me, I wrote a short story once about the sea and how it stole a lover because she was jealous – it was a powerful story, one I have never entered into a competition because then it was so real to me.  Kerry has since stopped fishing and I have not really had the heart to publish it, here or anywhere.
