For the last two weeks, Mum, Bobba, Kerry, Billy and I have been touring the South Island, to visit friends, family and the Burt Munro Memorial – a wicked weekend of fast action, thrills and spills! It was a great way to unwind and relax.
We stopped in Chch on the way down for a night, then spent 4 nights in Dunedin, where we shopped, visited museums and Chinese Gardens (highly recommend this one!). We went to Mataura which was to be our base for the weekend of the Burt Munro Memorial Run, Kerry, Bobba, Jen and I went to the Beach races on Friday night. We all went to Teretonga and then the Street races at Wyndham.
On the way home, we came via Lumsden and Kingston where Billy got to see the Kingston Flyer. He was very much impressed. We had a brief visit to Queenstown where we saw the Earnslaw coming in to dock. We then headed north, via Lindis Pass to Tekapo, where we discovered that the van had cooked itself. We limped into Fairlie where we stayed the night. The next day, Bobba, on hearing that the van was not in an immediately repairable state, arranged to have it trucked to Chch with Mum, Billy and I in the truck and Kerry and Bobba on their motorbikes. It was a long ride and we decided to stay the night in chch to recover. After a brief trip to the mall, tea and a swim, we had an early night before getting up early for the trip home the next day.
Billy behaved himself beautifully the whole trip, but the last day was the last straw for him, he just wanted to get home, he had had enough!
I was anxious to get back too, so I could finish editing the final book and start the next draft of the first book. I am quite excited about it and can’t wait to get started. I have a couple of ideas to add to the story, but will have to see whether they will fit in. They certainly won’t add 20,000 words, but with more description I think I can manage that. If I can get that edit done and get the book ready for publishing by early next year I will be happy. The next big step will be getting it out to publishers. I will have to check through KiwiWriters just what is out there.
Well, that’s really my fortnight in review. Back to the real world tomorrow… :o(
