So far this week…

Today I started writing my work reports and i got three done today – I looked at 4 more claims today but I am staying home for the rest of the week, I have had enough of driving around.  Sick of sitting in the car.

I wrote about 300 words on my story tonight, which is the first time in ages, which is good.  I don’t want to lose touch with this story, I actually want to finish the trilogy and work on getting it edited too.  At this stage I have 2500 words a day to make it by the deadline, which I think is around 26 August.  Hears hoping I can get through my reports quickly and then I can really get cracking into it.

What a bloody week!

Well this week, it was the week from Hell.  Not much writing done, in fact the only writing I have been doing is file notes on Insurance Claims!

Tapawera managed to escape the worst of the weather, we got some rain, but no wind, but Nelson was hammered by a Windstorm, and I have now got 24 claims, 20 of which I have already assessed.

Today, being Sunday, is the first day I have stopped long enough to contemplate my navel, I have been so busy.  The first night, Wednesday, I received a phone call to say I had 4 new claims coming, which was on top of the two I already had plus the afterhours call out.  I had a cold which also made things worse.

Thursday I spent  all day in town, assessing claims, I did 8 in all and finally switched off my cellphone because I got sick of it telling me I had a new message.  I assessed two claims on Friday and 10 claims yesterday (saturday).

I have two to look at tomorrow and two on Tuesday in Blenheim, plus I also have to write all of the reports, which is going to be very interesting!

I am looking forward to getting back onto my book, as it is part of my “The End is Nigh” Challenge for the Kiwi Writers.  It is something that I really want to finish.

This Week in Review

This week has been a very busy week, for work and play.

Monday is traditionally a day at home for me, a chance to catch up on paperwork, housework, family play etc, and this Monday was no exception.  I have been finding it hard to make time for my three, soon to be four year old boy.  He is adorable but he is also such an intelligent little boy who seems to have skipped the “Why?” phase, but I think that is because I explain everything fully to him without too much complication.  Kerry was away for the night in Picton with my Dad and stepmum.  He was working in Blenheim and stays with them while he is over that way.

Tuesday, I had to go to town to assess a couple of claims, which was no worry, took Billy up to Mums in Motueka and she had him for a couple of hours, then I was home.  Ended up with 4 claims to look at and didn’t get back home here until 5pm, so I got home just before Kerry and had to get the fire going and get tea started.  Did manage to get two reports written.  Billy and I had a picnic on the doorstep.

Wednesday, day for trying to get reports done, but also spending time with my son.  The weather wasn’t very nice and our wood arrived, so I spent some time stacking what I could not get under a tarpaulin so that it would stay dryish.  Instead I hurt my back!

Thursday is Playcentre day, I work as an assistant at Playcentre and today, I decided to play with my son, who normally gets neglected at Playcentre because I am trying to focus on other children.  Not any more!  Got the rest of the wood away.

Friday, another day in town Assessing, but took Michelle with me so we could start up our beading business…  Our bank account is all set and ready to go.  Assessed two claims, and still trying to do the reports.

I have not done a lot of writing this week, trying to find time is hard.  I have made a start on the last book in the trilogy, and have some ideas rattling around, I just want to get them onto paper before I go too much further.  I have a tree map that I use to help me develop ideas and formulate chapters.  I don’t stick to it rigidly, but it gives me a basis for my writing.  I am hoping that things settle down enough soon and I can get back into a routine so that I can start writing again.  I want to finish this second book.

About Me

Billy and KarenI suppose I should tell you a bit about me…

I live in Tapawera, which is a small town just south of Nelson, it is a beautiful place, hot and dry in the summer, very bitterly cold in the winter.  I live here with my darling husband Kerry and my son Billy.  I have two step sons, Lance and James who spend just about every weekend with us and are both absolutely positively rugby mad!

I work as a Contract Loss Adjuster, which means that I assess claims, do reports and send them through to a head office.  This is perfect for me because I get to work from home, doing a job that I have loved with a passion since I first got a job in a Loss Adjuster’s office as a receptionist.

I love writing, it is something that I have done on and off since I was little.  I remember the first story I made mum type up called Alley Cat, and it was about a cat that lived in an alley, I was so proud of that story.  I have always been better at expressing myself in writing than by speaking, forming words on paper works for me, I get to edit it, change it, make it more how I want it to sound (except if I handwrite, then I generally have to get it right the first time!)

I write mostly at night because my son, Billy, doesn’t like it when Mum is on the computer all day.  Kerry isn’t too impressed either, but then we get to cuddle in bed, and I don’t write all weekend, just in the evenings.  I love my husband so much, he is my pillar and my angel.  He is the one who keeps my ideas grounded, and will keep me grounded once I become a world famous novelist!

Greetings and Welcome

Hi there,  I am new to the world of blogging, but thought I would give it a try.  I am a budding author, currently have two books written and one still to be done, once I have finished, I will be able to start the editing phase and work through to the publishing them.

I am a full time wife to my beautiful husband Kerry and I am a full time Mum to my darling son, Billy.  They are both my inspiration and my dreams.  Long life to both of them.

Not only that, but I work part time as a contract Loss Adjuster, and one day a week I work at the local Playcentre.  I love beading and have just set up a beading business with my close friend (and critiquer) Michelle.

I began writing when I was at school and have always had a passion for it.  I love writing, just the use of words to form ideas, thoughts, dreams, passions, imaginery worlds.

I am also a member of the KiwiWriter.org website.  They have some cool challenges on there and lots of good friendly chatter and ideas.  They are great at assisting you and helping you to develop ideas.

So my three stories, what are they about?

It was a short story that I wrote for 6 form English and I got good marks on it.  It was something that I wanted to develop for years and now I have the opportunity to do that.  I have developed it into a trilogy and just finished the second book.

It is a fantasy book about twin sisters who do not know each other but are aware of each other.  They have lived separate lives and are brought together when one of them is kidnapped by a Warlock.

I can’t give too much away because of publication rights etc, but keep posted and I will keep you informed of progress.
